It looks like 2022 is going to be a great year for sci-fi and fantasy book releases! There are quite a few new series coming out, as well as some much-anticipated sequels.  January looks like it is shaping up to be quite a good release month for fantasy books.

While I am sure there will be some that are missing from this list, I tried to dig as deeply as possible to find as many of the exciting January 20200 fantasy book releases as possible. So here are all (most) of the fantasy books that we have to look forward to in January 2022.

Sequel Fantasy Books Coming Out in January 2022

If you loved the first books in these series, then you are going to be quite excited about these sequels releasing in January 2022.

Beyond the End of the World by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

Beyond the End of the World is the sequel to The Other Side of the Sky. This is a fantasy series that is pitched as being perfect for fans of Laini Taylor and Brandon Sanderson! It hits shelves on January 18, 2022.

Into the Midnight Void by Mara Fitzgerald

The sequel to Beyond the Ruby Veil, Into the Midnight Void, is slated to hit shelves on January 25, 2022!

Shattered Midnight by Dhonielle Clayton

According to Goodreads, “The Mirror: Shattered Midnight is the second novel in the innovative four-book fairy-tale series written by Julie C. Dao, Dhonielle Clayton, J.C. Cervantes, and L. L. McKinney, following one family over several generations, and the curse that plagues it.” This book comes out on January 18, 2022.

The Monarchs by Kass Morgan & Danielle Paige

The sequel, and conclusion, to The Raven’s Duology, this book will release in the US on January 11, 2022.

Ashes of Gold by J. Elle

The heart-pounding conclusion to the Wings of Ebony duology, Ashes of Gold will release to fantasy readers in the United States on January 11, 2022.

Bound by Firelight by Dana Swift

The final sequel on this list is Bound by Firelight, the sequel to last year’s Cast in Firelight, an Indian-inspired fantasy with magic, hidden identities, and an arranged marriage. This book will release to US readers on January 18, 2022.

New Series and Stand Alone Fantasy Books Coming Out in January 2022

It isn’t just sequels you need to be excited about coming out in January 2022. There are a lot of amazing-sounding new books coming out as well.  So if you want to dive into some new YA fantasy, adult fantasy, or fantasy stand-alone books, then these are all the new ones coming out in January that you can get started with!

Frozen Hearts and Death Magic by Day Leitao

This is the first book in the new Of Fire & Fae series. Frozen Hearts and Death Magic is a fae fantasy romance that is perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas. It will release to US readers on January 22, 2022.

The Ivory Key by Akshaya Raman

According to the Goodreads page, The Ivory Key is about “Magic, a prized resource, is the only thing between peace and war. When magic runs out, four estranged royal siblings must find a new source before their country is swallowed by invading forces. The first in an Indian-inspired duology” You can pick this one up on January 4, 2022.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan

Daughter of the Moon Goddess is a fantasy debut inspired by the legend of Chang’e, the Chinese moon goddess. With this stunning cover and a fantastic premise, you will for sure want to pick it up when it comes out on January 11, 2022.

Echoes and Empires by Morgan Rhodes

The first book in a new fantasy series, this book sees a snarky protagonist forced to team up with an enigmatic criminal in order to cure herself of “dangerous forbidden magic”. Forbidden magic is one of my favorite fantasy book tropes, and if you love it as much as I do, you can pick up this book on January 4, 2022.

The Bone Spindle by Leslie Vedder

Have you ever wanted to read a sleeping beauty retelling where the PRINCE was the one cursed to sleep until he could be awoken by true love’s kiss? Well, then you are in for a treat with The Bone Spindle, a gender-flipped Sleeping Beauty retelling for the modern-day! Pick this up when it comes out on January 11, 2022.

In Every Generation by Kendare Blake

If you are a massive Buffy the Vampire fan the way that I am, then you will be over the moon excited by this new book, In Every Generation! This is a slayer for the new generation, where we follow Willow’s daughter as she becomes the first-ever slayer-witch! This book comes out on January 25, 2022.

The Helheim Princess by Tina Warner

With a strong female lead, this Norse-inspired fantasy story is bound to be on a lot of the most anticipated fantasy lists.  We follow our main character as she tries to prove her strength and become the Valkyrie she has always wanted to be in this LGBTQ YA fantasy book.  This one comes out on January 4, 2022.

The Red Palace by June Hur

So the Red Palace is technically historical fiction, not a fantasy. But I had to include it because the premise just sounds amazing! You can read the entire synopsis here, but the short of it is that this is a book set in 1758 Korea following an illegitimate daughter who strives to earn her place in society.

This is by no means all of the January 2022 fantasy book releases. But is a good start to the New Year with new books! Let me know which one of these books you are the most excited to read!
